Sophie Planter, born Marie Sophie de Plantier, is from a line of prominent witches. She was born to Sylvia de Plantier outside of Paris, France. She has never known her father, and has had little contact with any of her family before the sudden tragic death of her mother. She doesn’t know a lot of the details, though her mother’s disapproval of Sylvie is made quite apparent. Because of her pregnancy, she’s gained a sort of an unkind reputation that unwed mothers seem to carry. For Sylvie that even carries on posthumously.

Marie is uprooted from her life to live with her grandmother in an old estate in Louisiana, though that does not last long. Here she does learn about her lineage, her mother never having told her of her families abilities. Soon after though Marie finds herself at a boarding school for girls. While on the outside it seems like an ordinary school, Marie quickly learns she isn’t just there for reading and writing. Latin isn’t just taught as a language. There’s only a few girls who seem to be chosen for this other extra curricular.

She studies here with no real choice in the matter, but as she gets older, Marie starts to realize all the pieces of a game she’s found herself in. For one she isn’t just learning magic. She was a calf for the slaughter. At 16 she was meant to be the sacrifice for her family’s coven, something her mother had known was planned for her, and the reason she fled as soon as she learned she was pregnant. Sylvie placed a protection spell in the rosary she’s worn since she was a little girl. Whether or not Sylvie raised her in the Church for more protection, remains to be seen.

Once the spell was activated it gave Marie enough time to flee. Since then she’s gone under the alias Sophie Planter, mostly going on her own. She continued trying to learn on her own, but she obviously struggles. She’s very adept at spells, like her mother. Going off on her own though, she somehow is constantly drawn back to churches. She picks up several jobs as janitors, clerical or administrative duties, anything she can do to make money and try and survive on her own.

She was 21 when she received a message from her father about the death of her mother. She had never met nor heard from him before, but somehow a raven carried this message, claiming to be her father, and a warning that someone was coming for her. It was mostly ominous, and since she has been trying to find out if it was a valid message.

Marie was a generally precocious, young girl, just trying to survive. She’s been shrouded in this mystery of her mother’s death and an entire life that has been hid from her for literally most of her life. Having a million questions about it all probably has made her more focused though.

The tragedy and loss of her mother is deeply felt. This coupled with the betrayal of the coven she thought she was a part of leaves her jaded and distrustful. It’s starting to seep into part of her and leaving its mark. She is a loner and doesn’t trust easily. Her whole history has been like a black cloud following her, and she’s ever aware of it.

She is a decent witch who takes after her mother when it comes to spells and incantation. She had about ten years total of formal training, and she is always looking for a mentor although she doesn’t trust so easily. Much of her abilities isn’t truly known to her nor is the extent of her family’s history. The true nature and scope of her abilities is unknown to her.

Technically she's a demigod. Her father, Cernunnos, is the Gallic god of the underworld (Dubnos). She's always had an affinity for sex magic, and part of that reason is it is a part of his realm, the forests, vegitation, wild life, and this shadowy realm.
